What’s happening now?
The plan says it covers prescriptions. That still leaves the question you care about: what will it cost to fill yours?
As November begins, Medicare’s annual Open Enrollment is underway through December 7. Changes made in this window generally start January 1. Compare next year’s details—not just the card already in your wallet.
Use the exact drug name, strength and pharmacy. A plan’s broad promise is not your personal refill price.
Has this happened before?
On January 1, 2006, Medicare’s Part D drug benefit began. It added a major way for people with Medicare to get help with prescription costs.
The benefit came through plans with their own covered-drug lists and rules. A household had to connect a large national program with small, exact details: the medicines in the cabinet and where they were filled.
That was the practical challenge. “Prescription coverage” described the category. It did not answer every question about a particular drug, dose or pharmacy.
What happened next?
Part D became an important part of Medicare. Its rules have changed over time, but the need for an exact match remains.
Compare the plan with your medicines, not with an average person. A low monthly premium can sit beside different pharmacy costs or drug rules. Check the estimated yearly total and the details behind it.
You heard the voice. Missed the words.
You catch the start of the story. The last few words disappear. Why pair grape seed and green tea in a daily hearing-support blend?

Use 15 minutes to prepare one accurate medicine list. Copy each current prescription’s name, strength, form and usual quantity from its label. Include the pharmacy you actually use. Keep this sheet private.
Enter those details in Medicare Plan Finder or ask a trusted counselor to help. Check the covered-drug list, prior approval rules and any limits. Confirm an unclear result with the plan or pharmacist.
Start with one drug today. Then finish the full list before choosing. For free, unbiased help, contact your State Health Insurance Assistance Program, known as SHIP. Do not cancel coverage or change medicine based on an ad.
